Chapter Elections
It is that time of year when we all start thinking about politics and elections. This upcoming election may be the most important in recent history. I know that you all can't wait to cast your ballots soon. I am of course talking about the much anticipated Chattahoochee Chapter
elections. This year we will be electing a Chair-elect and a Secretary. Below are brief descriptions of the two positions. Please feel free to nominate or volunteer to be nominated.
Officially, the Chair-elect, in the absence of the Chair, presides at Chapter meetings and acts for and assist the Chair in conducting Chapter affairs, as requested. The term is actually a two-year commitment: Year 1 - Chair-elect (1/1/09 - 12/31/09); Year 2 - Chair (1/1/10-12/31/10).
The position is not terribly time-demanding, but nevertheless fulfills an important functionality of the Chapter. All Chapter members are welcome to submit nominations and/or serve in this position.
The Secretary is responsible for recording the minutes during the meetings and sending the minutes to the Chapter members. This office requires only a one-year commitment.

Happy Hour Meetings
We have two objectives for these "happy hour" meetings. The first is to encourage networking among foresters as well as others interested in the forestry community. Please feel free to invite co-workers, attorneys, financial institutions, journalists, etc. Anyone who wants to meet a forester is welcome to join us. The other objective is to recruit new members into the SAF. If you know of any forestry professionals who are not members of SAF, please invite them as well.
These meetings will be very informal, with no agenda. Also, because of insurance requirements, drinks will be on your own. Meetings are tentatively scheduled every 4-8 weeks, with an advanced notice delivered directly to Chapter members by the Chair. Those interested should contact Jon Sokol ().
Scheduled Meetings: April 24, May 29, June 19, July 31, October 30, and November 20. All meetings will take place at 5:00 pm at Fado Irish Pub and Restaurant in Buckhead.
Community Service Event
The Chattahoochee Chapter is currently organizing a Walk in the Woods event for sometime in the Fall. Those with ideas or who are interested should contact Jon Sokol () or David Shostak ().
